Although counselling in its present form is a relatively modern phenomenon, to seek out another human being for help and support is as old as civilisation itself. We all have unhappy periods in our lives and these may lead to confused and overwhelming feelings.
People come to counselling or psychotherapy or many reasons, such as bereavement, separation or other major life changes. Some have suffered distressing childhood experiences that continue to affect their lives and others seek help in dealing with specific behaviours such as addictions or phobias or are trying to cope with feelings of depression or anxiety.
Counselling won't make your problems magically disappear but it can help you to acknowledge and face your fears and anxieties in a safe and supportive environment. This is your time and space to explore and discover without being judged or criticised.
Therapist Profile
Your counsellor is Ann Regis. Ann studied at the CPPD Counselling School in North London and gained her MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy with a study into the origins of eating disorders. She works with a humanistic, integrative approach because it recognises that there are significant connections between all approaches to counselling and that different clients have different needs. She works with both long and short term clients with a wide range of concerns, although she has particular experience in addiction issues as she worked for over two years with Croydon Alcohol Counselling Service.
